Pinch me, this can't be real....

Today (Sunday) was about as perfect a day as I've ever seen. The temperature was in the 40's in the early morning, but didn't take long to shoot up into the low 70's. After online church we followed our usual Sunday routine...coffee and the newspaper at Starbucks...but then hit a wall as to what to do outside in the afternoon.

I did find an art fest (a small one) at a local retail/residential development (Watter's Crossing) not too far away in Allen, TX, so we gave it a shot. The best booth I saw was a woman selling funny little sayings along with her watercolor art. An example:

Other isms..."We will sell no wine before it's time. It's time."

"Men have feelings, too, but who cares."

While searching online for something to do, I ran across an announcement for the "All British & European Car Day" next Sunday. Guess where I'll be next Sunday? ;)

Which reminds me...I saw this beautifully restored little Triumph Spitfire in our neighborhood recently:

Now that's something maybe even I could afford. Or not.

It was "Espana" week at Central Market, so we bought a number of small things we plan on munching on tapas-style for dinner tonight. Sounds pretty good, huh?

That's all for our weekend. Hope y'all had a nice one, too.

Cottonwood Art Festival w/ photos

Saturday after my car show (see previous post) I picked up K and we went to the Cottonwood Art Festival. It was a perfect day with temps in the 80's and a cloudless blue sky. There were over 200 vendors selling their photos, paintings, jewelry, ceramics, etc, and the large crowd seemed to be having fun:

Before we started seeing the sights we hit the food court:

I had shrimp kabob over a bed of seasoned rice, and K had fish tacos over rice. We shared each others and agreed it was the best "event food" we've had anywhere.

One vendor selling ceramic cats got my vote (but not my money) for 'most original sales pitch':

We wound up buying one small print of a Greek island house/patio overlooking the Mediterranean at sunrise...or is it sunset?. The table is set with a bowl of fruit (sunrise?) but there is also a bottle of wine (sunset?). Whatever, it looks very relaxing. Unfortunately it didn't photograph well hanging on our wall (glare), so you'll just have to make do with my verbal description.

To end our day we walked over to a new restaurant that just opened in our neighborhood called The Twisted Root. It's a burger joint, but it serves all kinds of exotic meat. Sounds weird, but it's really very good. There I saw this bumper sticker on a patio chair that cracked me up:

A stop on our walk home to listen to our sidewalk band (again see previous post), and that was our Saturday. All considered, it was a great day. I wish every Saturday could be like that.

Art Festival season is here!

Tomorrow morning we'll be on the road early. We're going to the Foat Wuth Arts Festival. It's one of our favorites, with lots of excellent judged vendors. "Judged" means the artisans are invited based on their talents, not on whether they can afford to buy a space on the esplanade. Only the best in each medium (such as painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, etc) get to display.

We've been to enough art fests over the years we now know several of the vendors, and look forward to seeing what new works they're offering. Unfortunately a shortage of funds as well as display wall space will probably preclude us buying anything new. Oh well, at least the music at these events is always good, as is the food. I'll try and bring back some interesting photos to share with you tomorrow.
